K-ZONE187.COM
K-ZONE187.COM Launched on September 1, 2010, K-zone187.com emerged bringing what many have called some of the best damn kept secrets in today's independent music to the forefront of the music industry. What started out as a recreational project to help showcase LGBT artists that performed hiphop, R&B, neo soul and other forms of urban music has now become a entity that lives on its own strength and life force. K-zone187.com "streams" music and entertainment media 24 hours a day, seven days a week along side other internet radio stations like Pandora, Yahoo Music, and AOL Music--the difference is K-zone187.com rotates LGBT artists* exclusively. And just like the music we play, K-zone187.com makes no excuses--we strive to bring your entertainment and media content to reflects real "urban" listeners--nothing manufactured; we are what we are; raw, creative, non stop synergy of real urban LGBT community. In addition, to K-zone187.com, with the incredible response from overseas we decided to launch a separate station geared towards the European market. On March 1st, K-zone187UK was launched. Reaching over 99 countries K-zone187 brand intends to be the number #1 LGBT internet station in cyber space.

Clark: He always helps those who helps themselves thats what it is faith is a strength all its own; Kudos.SeMarice Phipps: Yes, it is because between the years of 04 and 09 prayer was ya gurls best friend and tears were my next of kin and music was my only way out.R. Clark: Im glad he gave you the insight and patience to still be pushing forward through the struggles.Lets take it back, you started writing when you were five years old, thats incredible. Where you in an environment where you could openly and freely develop your talents?SeMarice Phipps: Nope, I actually wasnt. I didnt even have a notebook but for the longest I always loved to write. Id write on anything my first lyric sheet was a photo album sheet my mama was so mad but I didnt care [laughingl but when I started writing poetry in 2nd grade was when my lyrics started comin[g] out and eventually I started rapping.R. Clark: A rebel for your words I hear that. What would you tell readers who, like you have a passion they want to pursue, but arent in the most understanding environment.SeMarice Phipps: Dont stop and buy a computer straight up! Because where I live its like 80% straight and 20% Gay and the reason Im around in the business to even get a chance to really be heard is the internet and no matter what dont give up because the lgbt community is BIG we support our own so dont let being in a small town or no vehicle or even no money stop you just keep grinding because Ive told myself that so many times I still do.R. Clark: Yes, there is always a way all depends on how determined you are to find it.SeMarice Phipps: Yes, it does no one can help you if you dont.R. Clark: Exactly.SeMarice Phipps: That's why every day I get up at the crack of dawn send links send emails put epk's together and just push em send YouTube links every minute damn near of the day and pray I dont get on people nerves. R. Clark: Its all for good reason.SeMarice Phipps: Its a hard job but everyday it gets a little easier and some days go better than others but I wouldnt trade it for anything.R. Clark: As long as you have a love for it will always be a passion. Coming from a small town in Wisconsin when you started travelling and seeing the different lgbt scenes and communities, was it all somewhat of a culture shock?SeMarice Phipps: A BIG CULTURE SHOCK! So big I felt like a kid in a candy my first change of scenery seeing it for real was in West Palm Beach Florida and then I went to Jackson, Mississippi Jackson OH MY! I really got a chance to really see the embracing side of the lgbt community there dont wanna sound corny but it was a beautiful thing fam. R. Clark: We get love from all over it is a beautiful thing no corniness needed. With many accomplishments comes much recognition from fans, groupies?SeMarice Phipps: Yes, it does and thats why wit me bein[g] in the light wit[h] a misses on the right I try to create and keep a fine line with my music and my personal life like she knows when Im in the studio Im working and when Im at home business is still at the studio Im hers feel me. R. Clark: Thats good because we see so many people get caught up in the limelight and the tangibles that come along with it.SeMarice Phipps: true and I know a few that done been caught clean up in itme I done struggled enough to know that God can bring me right back down doin the next one harm for a lil piece because I look at it like this was the groupies paying my bills when I couldnt I neva forget stuff like thatR. Clark: True story fam they come and go with the wind.SeMarice Phipps: Hell yeah, especially these days.R. Clark: Do you think the lgbt community has evolved since your young teen days?SeMarice Phipps: YES DEFIATELY I remember when it was taboo to hold another gurl hand now I see lil studs everywhere with they ladies its crazy but again so beautiful. R. Clark: Indeed we are slowly blossoming into what is a beautiful flower of sorts. The same way we hope to fully coexist with the straight community with no worry or doubt, do you think the lgbt and mainstream entertainment industries will be able to play on the same field soon?SeMarice Phipps: I think we will be able to hold our own and then some Ive heard some lgbt artists that can hold a candle to some of the hottest out there that are in main stream some of my personal favorites happen to be T Stew and Noonie B, Young Doe of Bangdome and Freckles the writer that Uh huh is BANANAS we killin em NO DOUBT.R. Clark: True story we are making our presence known and there is so much more we are capable of. I thank you for giving us insight to your life, your struggles and triumphs. Many will see this and realize that you dont have to be born in the scene to stay in the scene. You have shown that from thing big cities to the small towns, talent is everywhere. Is there anything you want to say to the fans, new artists and readers?SeMarice Phipps: Yes, I do I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity of having your ears and also to the new talent on the rise dont Ive up I mean give up theres always a door somewhere its just on you to find the door and to my young lgbt's in training theres someone out there like you baby.R. RED Martinez
RED Martinezwritten by T.Nicole HillIn a world of artists who seem to be cut from the same mold, the charismatic rapper known to many as Red Martinez and to others simply Psycho Sexy defies the norm of hiphop to create something well--Something just shy of psycho with a touch of sexy that beams in the aura of RED...T.Nicole Hill: So for all the readers who do not know who Red Martinez is, please tell us about yourself?Red Martinez: Heller! My name is Red Martinez...also known as Psycho Sexy. I’m a young Latino Scizophrenic Bisexual rapper...I live in RI but I rep the south (Florida especially) I’m working on my new street album due in the summer and I’m all kinds of fierce.T.Nicole Hill: What prompted you to become not just a rapper but a openly Bi sexual rapper?Red Martinez: Well the openly issue was never a issue for me, folk could tell I was open about my sexuality and I rapped...so people just put 2 and 2 together I guess...T.Nicole Hill: You released a mixtape last fall that had several collabs on it, how did you pull that off? (I will list the collabs separately in the interview)Red Martinez: Well let’s see...Lady Twist I saw on vh1 and she was my favorite from my show (besides Khia) so I hit her up and she loved my sound so she hopped on, And I've always talked with J Night, Soce, Lester Greene and Delacruz so they hopped on as well. Verenice Buerling is a good friend of mine ad a phenomenal singer in her own right we did a few joint and I remixed one of her songs...she's on a couple project of mine.T.Nicole Hill: One thing I have noticed that despite what others may say about Red Martinez you have no problems with top may artists working with you. Who would you love to work with that you haven't yet?Red Martinez: Mainstream wise I'd love to do a song Missy, we talk on twitter all the time...and underground/indie I'd say Khia (we talk all the tI’me too) or Rasheeda.T.Nicole Hill: I will tell you that your track "Touch My Body" is in my playlist that I work out to. Where do you get your ideas for your music and do you work to hearing a track and writing your raps or reverse?Red Martinez: Thanks I heard it’s in rotation at the drag club downtown...and I just hear an instrumental and start jotting down what comes to my head. It’s a verse on a song it doesn't take me too long...if it’s one of my own songs it takes me a bit longer I’m big perfectionist and I always go back and edit thangs later.T.Nicole Hill: Now some say you go too far in your material? Point as example your track "Anilingus". WHat do you say to the critics of a Red Martinez "uncensored" track?Red Martinez: Well those folk are in need of a good rimjob, yall act like rappers don't be droppin nookie joints all the time. I’mma rapper just like them...I don't always talk about sex. I’m toning down the sex on my new street album but its hiphop people...T.Nicole Hill: Some claim you do it to be seen as oppose to allowing your talent to get you over. Do you write for shock value or the hope that it will net more downloads because of the controversial lyrics?Red Martinez: Pshhh! I don't see myself with any competition we all unsigned so it’s just a hustle & grind.... it takes a lot for me to throw shade I put out my music for my damn self and for MY fan base...if u hear it and didn't like it ... thank u for listening. I don't think I’m that controversial, and if was since when the hell was controversy in hiphop a bad thing? If it was one of the masculine gay rappers who ain’t released shit in years then I'd hear a different story.T.Nicole Hill: Now I do know that you have a diss track out...what's up with the diss to Ashley Breathe?Red Martinez: Don't gossip folk and do stupid shit then expect me not to respond...I heard through the grapevine in 2010 that he gossip folkin...I think the time he spent trying to make it as a producer he should spend on transitioning...but Imma leave Fifty Tyson in a wig alone.T.Nicole Hill: I see there is no love lost there. Let's talk a bit about Red behind the scenes for a minute. What do you do when you are not in the studio?Red Martinez: I’'m in school for my GED ... no one likes a dumb bitch. I exercise a lot and I cook, dance. Write.T.Nicole Hill: Do you think that there is prejudice in the Gay music movement?Red Martinez: Mhm, Somewhat but it'll die down eventually we have mainstream out rappers.T.Nicole Hill: So, Red are you single or involved?Red Martinez: I’'m married to Benjamin Franklin...we might get a divorce soon so I can take hI’m for everything he's got...#noprenup.T.Nicole Hill: Priceless. What do you think about the state of Gay Music and where do you see yourself in 5 years with the whole music thing?Red Martinez: On album number 4...a few videos out...maybe a scandal or 2.T.Nicole Hill: Scandal? You seem to thrive in the mix of it. Is that your personality or the persona Red Martinez at work?Red Martinez: Never that, it's just seems to happen. You asked me where I see myself not where do I wanna be [laughing] I don't thrive I just think its attracted 2 me.T.Nicole Hill: Very true...where do you wanna be in 5 years?Red Martinez: Successful records and some unique videos: Maybe a few different looks I’m very versatile and always wanna change my I’mage...thank god for personalities...schizophrenia can be a good thingT.Nicole Hill: So with the release of your upcoming album, can we expect to see one or two videos from Red Martinez?Red Martinez: From this album I don't know ... I wouldn't say so... this is a street album... but if I release a official album then yes, quite a few.T.Nicole Hill: Listening to your music, one can't help to see you have a sense of humor that you are not afraid to share with listeners. What other elements of your personality you feel a listener can hear when they listen to a Red Martinez track?Red Martinez: Ummm unthinkable lyrics? New concept to words and rapping...this project is a lil more hiphop driven...still club stuff but more shit talkin then Video Hoe. There's still some sex and party joints too.T.Nicole Hill: You sound excited about your next release. Can we expect more great collabs?Red Martinez: Def not as much though I wanna focus on folk hearing me spit but there will be a few yes, my new single, "Twirl Yo Wand" [currently released].T.Nicole Hill: That's what’s up. So did you name yourself the "Psycho Sexy rapper" or did someone else christen you with the name?Red Martinez: I honestly don't remember...I think it started when I wanted to be a wrestler...I was in school for it for a bit...but my arthritis said hell no [laughing].T.Nicole Hill: Oh my god me too!: them bumps are no damn joke.Red Martinez: Tell me about it...[laughing].T.Nicole Hill: So you had aspirations of being a pro wrestler? Were you open about being bi when you were in wrestling school?Red Martinez: Not really they just knew I don't wear a sign saying "hey I like boys" they saw the red hair, the leather boots and tattoos and they got the hint.T.Nicole Hill: What would you like to tell people about Red Martinez?Red Martinez: Listen to my music...love yourself and worry about you and your loved ones...negativity is easily avoided...and if you wanna become a rapper DON'T use a computer mic. Also I tell people to try ketchup on everything...its pretty yummy.T.Nicole Hill: where did the name RED MARTINEZ come from?Red Martinez: Martinez is my last name.T.Nicole Hill: And I take it Red is your favorite color?Red Martinez: And Red is what folks used to call me back in the day because my first name is long...they saw my hair and just said Red more then one person called me it so I stuck with it.Red Martinez: Everyone going to love my street album! I can't wait for everyone 2 hear the tracks.T.Nicole Hill: I’'m looking forward to it.Red Martinez: [It's]Very electro hop...missy meets florida.T.Nicole Hill: Good...summer coming we need some fresh music.Red Martinez: Yesss!T.Nicole Hill: Are you planning on traveling to any pride events?Red Martinez: I’'m going back to the south...I’m going 2 gay disney in June. I just hope I don't have to smack a queen!T.Nicole Hill: Well, its scandal if you do.

IKP
IKP=InFamous King of Positivitywritten by: GyftedIn a world where negative images are everywherewhether its in the things we read, the movies we watch or the music we hear (especially true too often in hip hop) oftentimes its hard to escape negativity. But not everyone approaches music from a in your face stance; IKP, the man known for his positive outlook on life through his music takes positivity to a whole new level.Gyfted: Please tell the readers a little bit about yourself for those who may not be familiar with you.IKP: I am The Infamous King of Positivity b.k.a I.K.P. and I'm a Hip-Hop Artist and Poet. I was born in Brooklyn NY and raised in Norfolk VA. I'm a military veteran of the U.S. Marines and I am of African- Hispanic descent. I am a graduate of Full Sail University and I am gearing up my release Ignoring the Known Protocol which will include the OutMusic Award nominated single "Let It B. Known". Gyfted: Seems you come from many backgrounds. How have the various environments you experienced play a part in your artistry?IKP: The best way to describe it is like a melting pot...the way the fabric of American society is. I can safely say that each phase of my existence manifests itself into a facet that I try to express in my art. So there are many angles I pull from in terms of expression and inspiration.Gyfted: So its safe to say your music and poetry are a direct reflection of your life and experiences? Can you give an example?IKP: My song "Let It B. Known" is one I'd like to break down. At the time I wrote the lyrics I was listening to the likes of Ice Cube's 1st album AmerKKKa's Most Wanted and BDP's By All Mean's Necessary and I was inspired by the fiery delivery of these artists. They voiced things that angered them about society with such panache that you HAD to stop and listen and I wanted to capture that...I always knew I wanted to express things that bothered me about how gays are seen and treated in the world because these were issues i dealt with and wrote about in secrecy at one point. It wasn't until after I was done with my military duties that I felt free enough to actually SAY it on wax, [and] then let OTHERS hear it.Gyfted: Being in the military and living in secrecy how did it affect you day to day living and mentality? If you could speak to others going through something similar what would you say?IKP: I was still doing a lot of growing in the military, finding myself and that involved making some mistakes and learning some lessons. So mentally I had to understand there's a time and a place for everything and there is some maturity that come with that.....Those going through that I would say that even though times may be a bit different now, the basic thing they should realize is that everybody deserves their space to be themselves and express themselves, so that means everyone doesn't have to agree with who you are and what you do. But respect is key and you should work to earn that first and look for common ground so that you can foster deeper relationships with people, like looking past skin color, sexual orientation, religion, background....whatever the case is.Gyfted: I can definitely agree with that. You mentioned earlier the significance of rappers in the 90's using music to promote awareness of issues in society. Whereas most outside of the culture would have written it off as gangster rap how were you able to understand the deeper meaningIKP: I couldn't relate to all the things these lyricists were saying but I did understand the context and the themes they spoke on. I knew that if this artist could make me feel like I was there living the life they were describing that there must be something more I could gain from it. Like AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, Ready to Die, Reasonable Doubt, Illmatic, By All Means Necessary...on the surface you hear and see the violence and the drug references and the cursing, but they all have something in common....IKP: It was the emotion projected in their attitudes about the way they had to live their lives, what they saw around them and what they needed to do to make it, as desperate as it got and as unbelievable as the consequences they faced if they succumbed to their environment. Taking all that in sent powerful synapses to someone as impressionable as I was; who wanted to know what the fabric of hip-hop is about.Gyfted: Do you think you have taken elements of promoting issues in your music? And what do you think the current state of hip hop or rap music is?IKP: When I write songs I do my best to balance the entertaining aspects of music while giving the audience something rich enough to take with them in their hearts and minds. I believe the best way to go about that is to let the people see my path and my train of thought, my imperfections and how I see the world.....IKP: That means I'm gonna talk about how gays are exiled from different countries or put to death, or if I see that there are groups out there using religion to justify hate towards gays then turn around and absolve their maledictions....or how society depicts us as one-dimensional characters to sustain stereotypes. We just need to take a serious look at some things and decide how we're gonna work to bring on some change....IKP: I think hip-hop and rap is always expanding its horizon because 20 years ago we didn't see too many hip-hop artists embracing the styles and themes we are seeing now. But there's a lack of balance. We're not seeing too much of the rich experiences the classic albums I mentioned earlier brought to the hip-hop culture. That's what was great about hip hop, you could have fun AND be socially aware, sometimes, at the same time. Now....not so much. Not too many artists out there work to bring that to their audience Gyfted: Tell us about your latest project? And where you see yourself in years?IKP: My latest project is really my first major project. It's an EP titled Ignoring the Known Protocol that I'm releasing independently. "Let It B. Known" is on it and the songs are all produced by different talented people I've met while in school at Full Sail....up and coming producers Sticky Sounz, myself, MDJ-009 and Master Majj. Previews are available on www.kingofpositivity.com....How many years we talking lol...?Gyfted: 5 [years]IKP: In five years, I want to stay releasing and performing more music and poetry to connect with all my supporters. My hope is to see this music reach bigger and bigger audiences inside and outside the LGBT community and pushing the envelope to bring more unity in society. I also plan to expand my brand into clothing that represents my love for positivity, color and art.Gyfted: I have definitely enjoyed this interview and the insight into your life and experiences. I think alot of the things you discussed the LGBT community can relate to and use it moving forward. Your insight on the issues addressed in songs n the past and how you have used it in your music is incredible Lastly do you have any links web pages social networking sites that you would like fans to have.IKP: Thank you it was an honor talking to you and being able to contribute to the magazine, I'm really humbled for this experience. Spending An Evening Amongst Friends...Season Finale of "Late Night With DJ Baker"written by: Tiffany-Nicole Hill (KAUTION)Sitting in the audience waiting for the taping of Late Night With DJ Baker I was overwhelmed by the turn out for such an amazing event. What made it amazing on so many levels were the many faces from all over the country converging on the 2nd floor of BCAT studio in Brooklyn, New York to witness the historic last episodes for the season of DJ Baker's independent TV show which can be seen online as well as on BCAT TV Network cablecasts in Brooklyn on Time Warner channels 34 -35 & 56 -57, Cablevision channels 67-70, RCN channels 82-85 and Verizon channels 42-45..Joining DJ behind the scenes producing the show was Swanny River, one third of the team that comprise Da Doo Dirty Show with DJ and of course the one and only FranCisco Vegas co-hosting from his front row co-host anchor chair. And of course Labeebah Burrell holding things down almost effortlessly. In attendance of this incredible season finale taping was a list of whose who in the urban LGBT community that any event would be proud to boast was in the packed audience that night.I personally arrived from Baltimore to be apart of the last show of the season; I wouldn't have missed it for anything in the world. Sitting beside me in the second row was Aurora Jonez of Bent Radio! who along with myself got to see many colleagues and friends join us in the audience.Steve "Sir Rah" Harris and Eddy J. Free ventured in from Ohio for the event; Oday, Daquan (Sgt. Sass) and Prince Charming of The Muse Cafe was in the house riding in from Philly and DC as well as Bone Intell, Last Offence, Shorty Roc, Loco Ninja, IKP, Ra Shawn Da Professor Chisolm, Nathan James, Delvon Johnson, Michael Irving, Angel L. Brown, Kevin Pettorsson who has not missed one taping of LAte Night With DJ Baker as well as the performers--Kaoz, Splash T, Damon Hannah, Billy Badd Ass, Nhojj, and guests Dane Joseph, Kristen-Alexander Griffith, and Troy Valjean Rucker from "Drama Queenz" web series along with the cast of Finding Me: Truth director/writer-Roger S. Omeus Jr.as well as cast members RayMartell Moore and Eugene E Turner. DJ brought in none other than DJ MK to hold down the sound as a wonderful addition to the show which kept the crowd entertained between guests and performances.During one of the breaks between taping I ventured out into the hall to actually clear my head and try to digest what I was seeing and taking apart of, only to find myself in the hall with many more people all trying to get in to see the taping of the show. It reminded me of back in the hay day time of Talk TV with Rikki Lake, Maury and Jerry Springer with the crowds outside trying to get in to see a show live. I have only one word to say to that:Incredible. It was a first for me to finally meet so many incredible individuals; its one thing to chat online, Or IM, text back and forth with a person or in some cases talk on the phone with them but its a totally different world meeting them face to face for the very first time.I will go on record as saying I have "history" with many of the people I saw for the first time. Shorty Roc and I have spent many hours on the phone talking and giving him a bear hug almost brought me to tears. And being hugged by Bone Intell who I will always share a connection with for several reasons (you know you my boy)almost choked me up. And then there was Sonny Lewis who left me feeling like my mom and dad had another son I didn't know about. And of course watching three of the flyest fellas to walk into a room who have made me laugh on a many Thursdays when I didn't want to laugh just by listening to their show; DaQuan, Oday and PC aka Prince Charming made my 3 1/2 hour trip to New York by greyhound bus (yes, I'm just that cheap) all worth it. Spending time with them was simply a blast because they remind me of Pop-eye's 3 nephews who always were into something that lead them to kick ass. Their talents have not been even tapped yet and I look forward to seeing the evolution of these young guys. DaQuan's latest single Part II: Psycho Sideshow (The Possession) shows just the surface of genius this guy brings. If Jimi Hendrix was ever to be reincarnated as a hiphop artist then he would be breathing through DaQuan. And Oday, he once "trapped" me in the chatroom of OUTing The Music Industry by declaring that next year he would be performing at the OMAs and walking the red carpet; well after meeting him in person, knowing his music there is no doubt in my mind he will make that dream happen.I finally got a chance to meet and speak to Last-O who I am always taken back by his talents and look forward to hearing his music for years to come on K-zone187. And Loco Ninja is as sweet and he is handsome in person and I was so glad he got my note for the show so he could make it; his new single "I'm In Love" featuring Carmen Beretta and Lumindee has been the number one song for several weeks requested on the station. He is a great guy and a supporter of the station--he took the time out to drop us a kool azz station drop just because. (Once again Loco...thank you!)And then there was OMA nominee IKP(Infamous King of Positivity) is truly a man of positivity. If it wasn't for his positive demeanor I am sure that my hunger (I rushed to get to the bus station without eating) would have caught me a case in New York that night. But one of the best things about the night was finally getting a chance to meet a person I hold in high regard and that has help keep the momentum of K-zone187.com going when my mother took ill and that was my partner and friend Steve "SirRah" Harris along with Eddy J. Free (the quiet gangstah) walk through the studio doors. I felt whole in a different manner than I have felt in a long time being surrounded by so many good people. I was amongst friends and family. If DJ MK had played "Its a Family Reunion" it would have been befitting. In that studio the energy was electrifying and DJ Baker never let up for well over 3 hours doing what he does best; bringing to the people entertainment with his wit, his charm and his ability to captivate a crowd. I got to see the magic which DJ, Cisco and Swanny River bring with them wherever they go and with whatever they do and I was in awe. Sqisqo radiates charm and suaveness that just takes over any room he is in and owns it. Yes, owns it. And Swanny the man of a million and one beats; the general behind the controls--he handled the production side leaving no doubt about the high quality end product of the shows known as Late Night with DJ Baker and Da Doo Dirty Show is infamous for.The first performance of the night was OUT Music Award winner Nhojj who I had not had the opportunity to hear sing live. He has a calm demeanor before he performs, during his performance and after his performance that was in a quiet way was simply powerful. I had sat beside him before he took the stage and recognized him immediately from photos and was impressed by his pose manner and 100 watt smile. When he left the stage I truly understood all the accolades he has been given and personally, the room seemed just a tad bit dimmer after he exited after his incredible performance.I was extremely impressed by the performances by Durtty Hood (Billy Badd Ass, Splash T, and Damon Hannah). Their performance left no doubt in my mind that they are on their way to reaching their goals of being a force to be known within the music industry. They truly compliment each other well and everything I have heard about their live performances was true and then some. Splash T? Well, she claimed that stage like a winning mega million lotto ticket and Damon his charm and sex appeal is uncanny and his showmanship is first rate. Billy Badd Ass is a sleeper cell waiting to happen; the emerging action hero that has yet to realize he is that rapping action hero. Those three talented individuals brought back the meaning of super power trio group that hiphop has truly been lacking for quite some time. And then there was this guy named "Kaoz"...Kevin "Kaoz" Moore can best be described as one of those artists that don't need a mic, don't need a fancy light show, and certainly don't need a bunch of half naked dancers (tho I'm sure many wouldn't mind the half naked dancers) behind him to help get him over. No, Kevin "Kaoz" Moore is one of those talented individuals who only need a moment to spit fire and reign down with his strong lyrical prowess as he claims the open space where his words court romantically with the open air.It was all I could do but snap photo after photo to capture what I was seeing in that room that night; I wanted to preserve that moment in time for all to see. You see, what was in that room that night was a group of people that left outside the petty differences, egos and harsh feelings. In that room on that night DJ Baker's show help give life to something that was well--quite wonderful. I'm sure there is many other words out there that could describe better what we all in that room was apart of, but to me, I will just use "wonderful" for now.Five hours later with the show finally wrapped up many (close to forty people)of us stood outside of BCAT on a darken Brooklyn street hungry, tired and spent--but none of us were in a hurry to leave and break the magic of the night. So we stood, and stayed laughing, joking, snapping pictures sharing stories; simply happy to have those moments to remember. That night truly help me put into perspective what K-zone187.com is apart of. I have always maintained that K-zone is the artists' tool to help promote their talents and it is my personal gift to the community that for twenty-five years I've had a love/hate relationship with. I love doing what I do; I love providing a vehicle for artists to be heard, and help bring media which closely resembles our urban community together as a united platform to help bring awareness and insight. Several times throughout the night many people pulled me aside to thank me. But in my heart it should be I who should be thanking all of them. Through their music, their commitment to bring high media which reflects honestly and accurately our lives and their undying activism I truly must thank them. And most importantly I thank DJ Baker for giving us a great excuse to really give true meaning to Pride which the LGBT community sometimes can lose sight of the meaning through execution of its translation by inviting us to celebrate the hallmark of his season finale with him. It was a pleasure, it was historic and it was truly a an amazing night.Simply Amazing.
